The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act gives the SEC authority to reward whistleblowers who report fraud to the SEC . A whistleblower can receive a reward for disclosing “original information” of an unlawful activity, leading to a recovery of more than $1 million for the SEC. Typically these rewards range from 10 to 30% of the amount the SEC receives.
